Boisdale
Boisdale has cornered the market in whiskies, Cuban cigars and quality Scottish fare. This main branch, ‘of Belgravia’ but actually round the corner from Victoria coach station, also specialises in jazz, with regular live shows. The USP, though, is the whisky menu of rare distinction – 18 pages thick – spanning distilleries large and small across the Scottish Lowlands, Highlands and Islands. Most are sold by the 50ml glass, for £6-£8, but there are a number of historic exceptions. Macallan is given special consideration, such as the 1946 vintage (£625.50); potent Speyside varieties include an Aberlour (£9.10) and a Benromach 1982 (£14.20), both around 60 per cent ABV. Irish whiskeys are given the thumb-nose treatment – Jameson is notably 10p cheaper than all the other brands.
