The Mawson Arms is not exactly user-friendly: it only opens until 8pm and closes completely at weekends, and it's a 15-minute trek from the nearest tube. But ale-lovers will find this mini-pilgrimage well worth the effort. The pub is within barrel-rolling distance of Fuller's HQ, the Griffin, the oldest brewery in London. On tap choose from a wide selection of Fuller's finest: Chiswick, Discovery, London Pride, Swing Low and Honey Dew, all impeccably kept, or ESB and Old Winter Ale in bottles. The drinkers here are a mix of workers from the brewery, punters from the popular brewery tour and local residents, generally an older crowd. If you feel 8pm is a bit too early to end your night, you can even get two-pint cartons of your favourite ale to take away.
