Arch One
If you fancy something classier than bog-standard wine or a pint, Arch One could be for you. The 30 or so cocktails (around £7) include the likes of coriander mojito and various takes on the martini, with nothing too tacky and stupidly named to lower the tone. The space is similarly unfussy, created out of a railway arch whose exposed brickwork curves high above polished wood tables and red leather banquettes. The huge glass frontage gives a fine view of Waterloo rail station’s grandest entrance, especially if you can bag a table in the tiny mezzanine space above the door. The food – pasta, salads and grills – could be more ambitious, but it’s a better bet than many other options nearby.
