The focal point for well-heeled, local thirtysomethings, this lively and inviting local has a really sociable feel, enhanced by the warmth of the staff. Chairs and tables are well set up along the curved outer wall of the narrow main room to create a cosy sense of privacy for small groups; almost anywhere you sit, much of the room is lost from view behind the attractive, central, semi-circular bar. Timothy Taylor Landlord makes a nice draught pint, the dozen bottles of each colour slightly favour New World wines over French. Hearty Sunday roasts (£10.95-£16.95) are served in the handsome restaurant, with its exposed brickwork and mood lighting; choose from a short list of gastro classics (sea bass, risotto) during the week.
