Prince Arthur
Surrounded as it is by three mucky vid shops, the Euston Massage Parlour and the back-end of one of London’s ugliest stations, the Prince Arthur ain’t the most appealing prospect. But over the last few years, under landlord Tom Helliwell, it’s had a major face-lift. Out have gone the mouldy furniture, the clogged pumps and the drug dealers. In have come leather chairs, colourful artwork and a Thai menu. Fresh flowers on every table, a shelf stacked with literary oddities and a jumpy soundtrack complete the new look, though the original Arthur’s essentials remain: gorgeous wood-panelled walls and a stained glass skylight to the rear. Greene King IPA, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Deuchars are pumped by chummy, mainly Gallic staff. There’s also table service for those who like their pint with a splash of servitude. Recommended.
