There's a great bar hidden away in this corner hangout (part of the Match group) opposite the Elbow Room. The space is fine - dark wood and ornate ceiling, a pretty chandelier here, exposed brickwork there. The booze has an intriguing American bent: pale ale from Sierra Nevada and porter-style brew from California, or maybe a Boilermaker (Yank beer with a shot of tequila or bourbon). The wine focuses on the Americas too, from California to Chile. Juicy burgers and soul food come in generous portions and cocktails are well-mixed. And yet certain things grate - tables are too close together, staff are lackadaisical and, on our visit, the toilets stank. Put those right, and this could be a real neighbourhood beacon.
