Despite rumours to the contrary, the Northgate seemed to appeal to a very varied crowd of Isilngtonites on our visit, with the feel of a busy local. Blackboard menus, a super-abundance of wood, gilded mirrors, spherical pendant lights, pop-type art (for sale) on the walls and a large, separate dining area with open kitchen may suggest archetypal modern gastropub, but this place does it better than many. On tap you'll find several real ales, and the decent wine menu has several options by the glass. The large outside space out front is an absolute boon in the summer months.
