Admiral Duncan

Soho’s most famous gay drinking hole – in terms of its longevity, its welcoming atmosphere and its resilience after the savage bombing of 1999. The Dunc also makes an effort where wines and cocktails are concerned. Not satisfied with a pyramid of alcopops and a couple of desultory taps of nitrokeg lager plus one bitter, it offers some 20 red and whites, half a dozen by the glass. These include an Espiral Macabeo chardonnay (£13.45), a Lindemans Bin 75 riesling (£14.45) and a Lorca Old Vine Monastrell shiraz (£12.95), or house plonk at under £3 a glass. The ten cocktails include a Malibu Woo Woo with Finlandia Cranberry and a cosmopolitan made with Absolut Citron. More standard concoctions go for £5.50.
