The Engineer rewards the well organised. Although there's always space at the bar for a swift pint (Bombardier and Hooky Bitter among the draught options), you assume a seat may be available in the dining area at your peril. The gastro offerings (in particular the weekend brunches) at this bright, breezy and very classy boozer are renowned and oversubscribed. Despite the trendy wallpaper and mirror-strewn function rooms, the vibe is well-to-do rather than hip. In the main bar, huge, colourful lampshades reflect a warm glow over a groomed clientele talking bonuses, school fees and the health benefits of pinot grigio. The decked beer garden out back makes a fine escape.
