Bush Bar & Grill
A short passageway of spotless white walls and red lights takes you into this former milk-bottling factory, now a swish bar-restaurant. The high ceiling is all ventilation pipes, while huge windows overlook leather bench seats that are large enough to prevent the place from appearing cavernous. The disappointing range of draught lagers is improved by bottles of Vedett, Duvel and Paulaner, and the 40-strong wine list include a Jaffelin, Mâcon Fuisse (£23.75) and a Delta Vineyard pinot noir from New Zealand (£26.50). There’s also an extensive range of cocktails (£6.75-£8.50): try a Cabaret of Gordon’s gin, Benedictine, Noilly Pratt Blanc vermouth and Angostura bitters. A slit along one wall reveals a kitchen serving Modern European cuisine to the raised dining area; the menu changes monthly, but featured haddock and salmon fishcakes and roast rack of lamb on our most recent visit. New ownership has seen minor alterations to the layout and a major improvement in the staff’s demeanour.
