  • Gin palace turned gastropub, the pleasant Peasant exudes a contemporary tone with its continental draught beers and posters of punk rock stars. Where did they get that one advertising Iggy Pop in San Sebastián? Antwerp De Koninck is another rare find on tap, accompanied by Erdinger Weissbier, Cruzcampo and Leffe; Breton cider and Belgian Trappist treats come by the bottle. Pub touches from a previous life include the provision of Bombardier and Crouch Vale Brewers Gold, and a striking mosaic of George and the dragon in tiled-floor form. A superior bar menu (try the steak sandwich) can be had with your choice of a dozen-plus wines by the glass; the Sunday roast is a killer.
