London's best review, food and drink news
Set back from the main drag, this old-school boozer has more of an Afro-Caribbean community feel than many Brixton watering holes. The daily changing menu offers the likes of seaweed callaloo and jerk pork, and palm fronds tower over drinkers in the cosy patio garden (one of SW2's livelier outdoor drinking experiences). The yellowing patterned wallpaper and curtains seem to get progressively more torn each year, but one look at the fading Victorian splendour of the gold-corniced ceiling and pretty domed glass lamps, and it's no wonder die-hard locals pack the place out each night. Join them for excellent Guinness and rowdy sport screenings.
