Bar Soho

Dinky menus in new signature red, dining tables across half the main bar space at lunchtime (portobello mushroom burger, £6) and ‘I Heart Soho’ merchandise suggest this party bar and pick-up joint is now punting for daytime trade. Come nightfall, most customers are mainly intent on reaching first base before moving on à deux. They’re aided in this task by an improved wine selection – ten on offer, four by the glass (Les Bateaux merlot £4/£14.50, Silterra pinot grigio £4.10/£14.90) – and standard cocktails at £6.20. No surprises among the draught beer options, but you can find bottled Peroni, Michelob and Sol, as well as Bulmers cider and fruit Quinn’s. Despite the upgrade, Bar Soho’s sturdy wrought-iron and flagstone interior can still tell a few tales of nights gone by.
