Poised between Crouch End and Muswell Hill, this superior gastropub is a popular spot with a modish local crowd, especially at weekends. The upstairs dining room is an airy mix of modernity and Victorian plush, but the place to eat at, weather permitting, is the stylish covered patio. Non-diners have plenty of room in the bar, which is equipped with leather sofas and tasty bar snacks. Wines are refined and affordable; the beers include Staropramen and Leffe, but no resident ales; the guest ale tends to be a novelty like Red Squirrel or Rebellion Brewery's Smugglers' Bitter. There's also (at least on our visit) Addlestones cider on tap.
