London's best review, food and drink news
Subterranean Detroit's cave-like alcoves combine a sense of below-radar cool with the uneasy feeling you've stumbled on a Flintstones theme park; it's not for claustrophobes, either. Lovers and intimate circles of friends whisper and cackle in dark corners, while sassy staff serve up contemporary drinks from a long bar of equal attraction. Fifteen long drinks (£6.95) include a Rosemary's Son of vodka, rosemary, raspberry, raspberry eau de vie, elderflower cordial and ginger beer; ten martinis (£6.95) include a Detropolitan of citrus vodka, cassis, Cointreau, cranberry and lime juices. More pricey, absinthe-laced 'Overproof' cocktails (£9.80) are balanced out by a '7 Heaven Happy Hour', when two drinks are £7. Cusqueña, Viru and Asahi are among the beers; satays, skewers and focaccia are the booze-soaking edibles.
