Wax
Unashamed and unsophisticated but certainly not unnecessary, Wax is a post-work trough for caning it and copping off. There are sporadic speed dating nights, but if you’re in more of a hurry, happy hour jugs (£9.10) might help in your bid to find yourself in an alien part of town the next morning. Otherwise, cocktails are £5-£6 a glass, £15 a jug. Wines are better chosen than could be expected, including a Two Oceans chenin blanc (£15.75) from South Africa. Five champagnes come two by the glass (Heidsieck £5.75, Pommery Brut £7.25); Asahi and Peroni are among the bottled beers, and Heineken is on draught for the chuggers. Food till the early hours might just save the still-lonely from a post-bar kebab.

A group of 7 friends and I decided to reserve a booth for a girls' night out. On arriving at wax, we had to wait for 15 minutes to even speak to a member of staff. Not that the place was busy, there were only a handful of people there!
