It's hard to ascertain where exactly the pub is in the self-declared Garrison Public House, but it's a Bermondsey Street highlight all the same. The venue is more bistro than boozer (it's low on standing space), but if you're after top-quality food, a laid-back vibe and character by the bucketload you've found the right place. The interior is an eccentric cross between an old mountain lodge and a 19th-century aristocratic dining room, full of eye-catching touches like the William Morris-style wallpaper on the back wall, curvy tables and chairs, and free-standing floor lamps. The intimate and prettily lit ground-floor space has 'romantic dinner' written all over it. A cosy basement room - complete with jukebox - handles overspill and private parties.
