Previously the black sheep of Hampstead pubs, this place has been operating as a fairly high-end gastropub for some years now, kitted out in dark woods and leather. Nobody is here for the decor though, it's the location and the food - posh bangers and mash or scallops downstairs, chateaubriand steaks and the like in the first floor restaurant. In summer, the outside tables are the main draw: a block from the heath, on the way to and from the tube, and looking out onto some of NW3's most picturesque streets. There's nowhere better for a post-stroll meal and a glass of wine.
