The Swag & Tails feels like a cosy village local in the Surrey Stockbroker Belt, such is its setting, deep in an exceptionally exclusive warren of mews houses. The stripped pine and heavy curtains are plummy, and the ostentatious displays of champagne make it practically a period piece. Still, despite its dated feel and the inevitably too-high prices (burgers are £11.25), the welcome is usually warm, the music hand-picked (Dylan’s last album when we visited) and the beer decent.
