London's best review, food and drink news
One of the best boozers within easy striking distance of Paddington, this is a cosy old school gaff with a dedication to fine beer and fine horses. By day, screens follow the Sport of Kings around the country, while the quiet atmosphere encourages thoughtful perusing of the form. To drink, Adnams, Brakspear, Timothy Taylor and Murphy's are all worth a flutter, though a big win clearly merits one of the giant bottles of champagne that decorate the tiny backroom. Food includes sandwiches such as Limerick ham (like the Murphy's, a nod to the pub's Irish owners) and, on Fridays, salt beef.
