London's best review, food and drink news
The combination of the original elements of a decorative and detailed Victorian pub with the added comforts of a contemporary update has been pulled off to great effect here. The seating revolves around a striking and beautifully crafted wood and glass central bar which divides the place in two. There are enough angles in the handsomely wood-panelled walls to provide an inviting set of nooks and crannies, including a coffee-table corner tucked away behind the bar and, most invitingly, the cushion-heavy Bedouin-style private cubbyhole at the back. Continental lagers dominate the pumps, including Hoegaarden, Früli, Amstel and Peroni, and on the varied food menu, which has a hint of an Arabic slant, there are good deals on cross-continental meze dishes (four plates for £11).
