London's best review, food and drink news
Summer or winter weekends see a young and boisterous crowd spilling out onto the pavement in front of the Met; some are smokers, others just taking a breather from the inevitable crush within. Despite its size, this place is so popular that you'll be lucky to get your hands on a table between Thursday and Sunday - unless you arrive early. It's a shame because the food is good - a spinach and asparagus soup was superbly flavoursome, garlicky squid beautifully cooked. Lunchtimes are the best time to sample the fare if you want to avoid the crowds who come for the DJs (5.30pm onwards on Sundays) and themed evenings (Tuesday nights support London buskers). There's a lounge bar upstairs, a small dining room (which can be hired), a roof terrace and a large beer 'garden'. The wine list is good and beers on tap include Adnams, Bombardier and Amstel.
