Like the Duke himself (of York that is), the one who marched his men to the top of the hill only to march them down again, this place has its quirks. Seating in the tiny main bar is a mix of vintage wooden booths and brightly coloured, Formica-topped tables dotted around on scuffed parquet. A shiny red piano beckons from one side, though you’d have to know your chops, since cool jazz is the music of choice. Portraits of vintage film starlets sets the 1930s to ’50s mood. Food is served in a wood-lined dining room. For beer, Adnams and Greene King are on tap.

I work hard and play hard. I like to keep relatively heathly but not over the top. I Rock climb, snowboard, Run, play squash and will try anything...

Really feel that this place deserves a higher rating. 50's starlets replaced with art deco mirrors, polite and helpful bar staff and wonderful food. My favourite spot after work.
