Every year, we like this pub a bit more. And every year, it seems a bit more agreeably out of place. Sure, a paint job has brightened it up, but the Golden Eagle remains what it's been for years: an unpretentious little boozer (and we mean little - there's just a clutch of bar stools lined up by the window), not hugely charismatic, but pleasingly untouched by corporate hands and always serving two or three well-kept ales (St Austell Tribute, say, or London Pride). Try to make it for one of the thrice-weekly piano singalongs, which make a jolly counterpoint to the barman's amusingly weary demeanour. You'd like it if this place was in your neighbourhood; tucked away in this increasingly chi-chi corner of Marylebone, it's an absolute peach.
