Tucked away in an attractive West End mews, the Guinea is a proper boozer - and there aren't many of those in this part of town. The largely besuited punters sup from a limited but well-kept range of ales (Young's Ordinary and Special, Bombardier) and an impressively long wine list. There's a battered charm about the interior - worn carpets, heavy curtains, wooden booths - that's clearly the effect of longevity rather than retrofitting. The steak and kidney pies, served on weekday lunchtimes, have won awards, and for more refined palates there's a proper restaurant, the Guinea Grill, next door.
