Downstairs from the Red Fort Indian restaurant of some renown, the equally superior Akbar basement cocktail lounge also sources its ingredients from far and wide. The Stolichnaya used in some of the 30 martinis, long drinks and shorts (all £7) can be infused with lemongrass or ginger; a Ruby adds a dusting of nutmeg to the Stoli, fresh watermelon and mango purée; and fresh pomegranate is mixed with basil-infused Bombay Sapphire, Maraschino and apricot purée to create a Garden of Earthly Delights. The five fresh fruit lassis (£5) are similarly well sourced, and the bar snacks (minced lamb goolar with fresh orange rind, £7) are reliably good. All the above are served in an understated, candlelit space.
