Bars & Pubs

  • Albannach

  • Impressively located slap on Trafalgar Square, Albannach (as opposed to 'sassanach') specialises in Scotch whiskies and cocktails thereof. A map in the menu explains where these Highland and Island malts come from, the pages brimming with 17-year-old Glengoynes (£9.50), 12-year-old Cragganmore (£7.50) and 29-year-old Auchentoshan (£50). The imaginative cocktail list (£7.50-£8) includes a Shetland Pony of Blackwood's Shetland gin, citrus, peach and passion fruit, and an Islay Punch with Bowmore Darkest, lime and bitters. Among the native dishes are organic Scottish salmon fish cakes (£6.50), shallow-fried haggis parcels (£4.50) and, improbably, a meat-free scotch egg (£5.50). Kilted staff, illuminated reindeer and too many loud office groups detract from the quality on offer.

Worst service I have recieved in London so far. Try to make a booking - they don't bother to return your calls or emails and when you finally get to speak to someone they are (three people in a row) extremely rude!

I was looking forward to a good night out and had booked this restaurant for a friday evening. I wish I hadn't bothered, the dining area is a mezzanine floor over a very, very noisy bar so you can't talk or hear anyone you are with. The waitress kindly told me that they were out of Scallops so I ordered the oysters.....15 minutes later the waitress came back and told me they were out of those aswell, would I like to pick an alternative starter....the choice on the menu is very limited and not that scottish at all....The best thing about the meal was the steak but there should be a trade discription act if they are branding themselves a scottish destination. We were give a 20% discount for our inconvenience but I still left with a bad taste in my mouth. I would definately not return to this "resaurant".

I went here for lunch and it was £15 for 2 amazing courses. The place is very chic and I would definately return at night.
