Hanging baskets of flowers and the kind of pub frontage usually associated with villages in Kent compose a very pretty picture here, especially when incongruously compared to the raging commerce around this stretch between Victoria and Westminster. It's a Shepherd Neame pub, and a cosy one at that, with taps of brewery standards (Master Brew, Bishops Finger, Kent's Best and Spitfire, and stablemates Holsten and Oranjeboom) set on an equally modest bar counter. Recent restoration has uncovered a series of old caricatures and black and white photographs that lend a suitably charming touch - although the wine list could be a little more ambitious than the unadventurous half-dozen bottles currently on offer.
