London's best review, food and drink news
Good ales attract a slew of regulars to this unassuming pub in a quiet Victoria street. Quiet, that is, except for one night in 1974 when Lady Lucan burst in to tell of the murder of the family nanny; the subsequent manhunt for her husband is related by the news splashes framed and mounted here. Three decades on, workmen peacefully sip Oakham Inferno, Geordie Pride and a changing guest ale, as well as Young's, Fuller's London Pride and Hoegaarden. It's a Punch Tavern, so the food selection bears similarities to establishments such as the Red Lion (see p82) in Westminster: roast beef (£7.59); fish and chips (£8.59) and decent Aberdeen Angus burgers (£6.99).
