One might assume that this traditional Young's pub would suffer from standing next door to one of the most successful outlets in south London, the Greenwich Union (see p164), but that's far from the case. Regulars gather in droves at the lovely, two-bar boozer, much as they did for the hop-picking organised here 50 years ago, the photographic evidence of which complements the venue's nautical prints. Seats in the beautiful bay window are the best in the house, along with those in the beer garden out back. As well as Young's usual range and Bombardier, there is Peroni and Bitburger by the bottle, a standard merlot, pinot grigio and shiraz, fairly priced pub grub and board games.
