The people behind the Perry Hill have avoided the classic gastropub mistake of giving great gastro but piss-poor pub: this pub keeps very good ale (a hoppy Shepherd Neame Spitfire bitter went down a treat). Food is worth having - hot chocolate soufflé with crème fraîche is a must-order. And while the decor shouts 'Harvester' - it's a big roadhouse squatting on a bleakish suburban thoroughfare, with a large decked backyard, a restaurant at the side and a public bar sprinkled with lads drinking lager and older couples having a pension-day pint - this is the Harvester from heaven. The wine list needs some attention but, that aside, this place is excellent.
