This Victorian Grade II-listed local has an appealing conspiratorial air - the sort of place in which Regan might have drunk with a source in The Sweeney back in the '70s. The sweeping corner site offers numerous private nooks where chesterfields and well-worn wooden tables are overlooked by a mishmash of old hunting prints and oils. The pints are a changing mix of Adnams, Fuller's and Brakspear, and the wine list includes a malbec and Chablis (it scores extra for offering carafes). The food is thoughtful too, mixing thai fish cakes and beef and Guinness pie, with Greek and Italian themed platters - a nod to changing times in a place that clings to its past.
