Lovingly restored, this high-ceilinged Victorian pub buzzes all week long with punters slouching contentedly on its battered brown leather sofas. The vast space has been split into a dining room and main bar, with the kitchen doing a roaring trade in European gastropub fare. On the bar side there is a well-chosen wine list and Greene King IPA, Tribute and Leffe. Homely touches abound, with open fires, vintage lampshades and giant flower-filled vases which go down well with the young professional crowd who treat the Tavern as their own front room.
