This big corner bar used to be a chain pub of the lowest order. Nowadays, though, it's far from budget. What makes this gastropub stand out is its on-site microbrewery, which produces fine McLaughlin's ale, its long wine list, reflecting the owner's Antipodean roots, and its food. It's proved a real hit in an area surprisingly starved of good-value eateries. And though the bright and frenetic feel doesn't lend itself to cosy romance, the open kitchen's 'farm to fork' sourcing - the cod comes from Cornwall, the beef from Suffolk - makes for an all- round happier meal.

The steak is A-MAZING here. We live in South London but make the trek when we want great food and good service. If you want a more cosy ambience, best to book the upstairs section.
Not the most cosy pub in NW3 (there's always the Holly Bush, The Duke or the White horse for that) The Horseshoe is easily the best gastropub in NW3 - with great beer thown in, brewed in the basement by the Landlord himself.
The flawless Sunday Roast maybe be a bit pricey at £14 - but it really is perfect - and if you're looking for a bargain, the £7 lunch (including wine) is a steal.
Only drops one star for being a little noisy at times - book one of the few tables in the back if you're looking for somewhere to whisper sweet nothings.
Last night we had the most amazing time here. The food was delicious, you can choose from fritters, to steak, to fish and chips, to partridge and rabbit.
I had the steak and it was fantastic. The service was excellent and the waitresses were always there if you needed anything.
The wine list is huge and the only down side to the evening that it was so cold when we left the restaurant.
Fantastic evening all round!
We love the steak here! We travel from South London all the way up the Northern Line for our fix! Thoroughly recommend this place.
This was really disappointing. They had run out of many items on the menu by 8.30 pm- main courses and desserts.
The cheesecake was billed as being served with strawberries but it came with a small piece of one strawberry. This was the same for 2 or 3 of our guests and it looked like they had made one strawberry go a long way.
The waitress tried to take all orders from one end of a long table without moving round expecting you to shout across at her. By the end of the evening she gave the impression she was completely fed up and was quite rude.
Food was reasonable, but the experience was not at all what I would expect at £30 per head.
I've eaten at the Horseshoe three times in the last year, and thoroughly enjoyed each meal. The atmosphere is up-beat, yet also calm. The wait staff have always been friendly and efficient. As for the food, high quality, unpretentious ingredients and dishes with lots of seasonal variety.
I've been to the horseshoe twice now and have thoroughly enjoyed myself both times. Its has a great atmosphere and the service is sincere and relaxed. I had the steak last visit and was not disappointed.
Certainly recommend...
