Bars & Pubs

  • Paradise by Way of Kensal Green

  • Perched in the corner of the quirkily theatrical Paradise is a seven-foot statue of an angel that looks as if it flew over the wall of the nearby cemetery for a cheeky pint. It couldn't have picked a more atmospheric drinking hole: attractively craquelure paintwork; an assortment of decorative chandeliers lighting rooms connected by a spiral staircase; cherubs eavesdropping on hipster locals as they lounge on faux gilt French furniture to sip cocktails (such as moscow mules, £6.50) and pints of Hoegaarden. The restaurant positioned behind the bar has a similarly relaxing atmosphere, offering quality British cuisine (lemon sole with mash, chargrilled ribeye steak with chips) under the direction of Tim Payne, former executive chef to Marco Pierre White. Outside areas are arranged with palms and decking, and the spacious upstairs area has a stage for live acts (burlesque and cabaret often feature). Best of all, though, are the lazy Sunday sessions - roasts to die for (beef, lamb, corn-fed chicken, yorkshire puddings, proper gravy), piles of newspapers and hangover-defying bloody marys. A private dining room, with access to a roof terrace, makes a fine place for parties. Yes, this is the local pub of your dreams.

One of best Gastro pubs West London
I had a truely wonderful time at the Paradise. It surpassed my expectations and being in the hospitality business myself that says a lot. Thanks to all who helped and the modern British food
and quality was magnificent (in particular the beef and Eton mess). Our waitressess were charming and efficient and the whole event worked very well in the Library. Will be back soon for my regular Sunday lunches but will try and find anotheroccasion soon (as will my guests who were equally impressed). Many thanks to all the staff.

If you think the Paradise is expensive, you will do a double take on listening to this. They are currently running a 50% discount on all food (in the restaurant). See above. This perhaps does not apply on Sundays, but does most other days. I've been to the Paradise loads and it's food is one of the highlights of these visits. It's also very romantic and has a great evening vibe that should not be missed.

It kicks ass to pay 50 pounds for a jug of Bloody Mary. This is the least eclectic place I've ever visited, and the “garden” needs a serious upgrade. Look nothing like it does on the deceptive website pictures - its barren smoker’s yard. Sorry, but this place is no 5 starer. I can understand a certain type of people would like it though – so keep patronising and stay away from bars with real character.

I have lived in the local area, on the other side of London and now down in sunny Brighton and still drink and dine there whenever i can.
The beauty of Paradise is it versatility. Its ability to transform itself from stylish laid back watering hole at the start of the week to to buzzing bar and lavish dining hall at the weekend, all the while interspersing fantastic up and coming club nights and events-in particular their legendary Notting Hill Carnival parties-is a feat i have not seen from many other places in the capital. I have worked as a hospitality recruitment consultant for a while now and whilst never getting the opportunity to work with Paradise, i am fully aware of the calibre of both bar and kitchen staff that have done and still do frequent the establishment and i am always more than confident that i will be provided with a night to remember whenever i visit.
Whenever i have been for drinks and dinner it is an eclectic mix of people which is what gives it its unrivalled atmosphere in my opinion.
A beautiful top class bar and restaurant.
(Go for Sunday Lunch with bloody marys btw, it kicks ass!)

Totally disagree with the other reviewers. Pretentious, overpriced restaurant with mediocre service. The fit-out has the feel of a cheaply done Lost Society rip-off. Only ale on tap was out. Guinness was nothing special. Food bland and expensive. If you rate this place it is because you are upper-middle class and boring. It’s a shame because the building itself is actually quite interesting and has potential.

We went there yesterday without any reservations at all. The dining hall was packed and this was 3pm. We found a seat in the bar area. I am vegetarian and didn't fancy what they had on the Sunday menu. The waitress was ever so friendly and she spoke to the chef and they gave me a Vegie Wellington instead of meat. My husband enjoyed his Roast Beef. Everything was superb. We are going back this Friday. We love the high quality food that Paradise has to offer!

Tuesday was our second visit to The Paradise and there will definitely be others. The Paradise has outstanding food and service. We found it good value considering the quallity of both. My lobster and chips was divine and the sticky toffee pudding so llight! The wine recommended just perfect. We all agreed that on top of that the venue has great charm and warmth, interesting tables, well spread out, a very successful evening. Thank you.

Went to the Paradise last night with my father and my girlfriend; a Monday night dinner can be a trifle quiet - and you must remember, never eat Oysters on a Monday - but I'm happy to say that while not packed the rafters (as you'd expect after a sunny weekend which practically demanded self-indulgence), there were several other groups of people eating. Like plants, we'd all gravitated to the sunshine and the tables by the windows. Had a crab and apple salad with asparagus, could have just been a clever-clever semantic pun but nope, it was rather good. Then a steak with chips and orange butter; it actually came rare as requested. Couldn't partake of a pudding I thought, but the spoon that came with my espresso worked well enough while my girlfriend was distracted from her Eton Mess by my wise and patient father. The staff know their wine and are genuinely charming. Not the only option in that part of the town, but certainly the best.

Went for dinner on a saturday night. Pleasantly surprised by the transition from a busy bar to a relaxed, elegant dining area.
Food was excellent, perfectly cooked and very well presented. Left after dinner but the venue as whole seemed to have a really good atmosphere and will definately come back for a night out!
