Of Bloomsbury's two subterranean bowling dens, this is the one with aspirations. Walk past the lanes and smart, diner-style seating, and you'll find yourself in a comfortable, subdued side bar with chilled glasses, classy red furnishings, glitterballs, an unusual mix of bottled lagers (try the delicious Anchor Steam) and an impressive cocktail selection. It's a fine place for lounging, although the rumble of bowling balls and clink of beer buckets should serve as a reminder that leisure entertainment is very much the name of the game. There's a sister branch in Bayswater (7313 8363), and another planned for Brick Lane. Booking ahead is a good idea.
