It isn't only Clerkenwell's media types who are thankful for the Betsey's long-overdue facelift. The spruce-up extends beyond the fresh flowers, retro lighting and crazy, coppery wallpaper; the upstairs bar still hosts great soul nights, the downstairs box still shoehorns in geektastic indie outfits and, on our visit, the soundtrack appeared to be Dylan on a loop. Musos aside, all can enjoy great eating and drinking. Spitfire and Bishops Finger ales are joined by guest Whitstable Bay, there's a decent choice of wines by the glass (from £3), a dozen malt whiskies, 'special' bloody marys (glass or pitcher), and proper coffees and herbal teas. Appetites can be sated with regularly changing menus that always include delicious pies fresh from Borough Market.

New to London from New Zealand, like to travel and going to use England as a base to see Europe. I am easy going, favourite things are listening to...
this funny shaped boozer has been recently re-furbed but maintains a real pub feel. I've been to some ace gigs here, their cosy cellar venue is one of a kind. Friendly bar staff, lovely vibe and excellent music being played on the sound system. Bishops Finger is always in good nick.
