Part-French and part-Spanish in its gastronomic leanings, the street corner Green attracts a discerning professional clientele thanks to the quality of its cuisine and wines. Under a bloody great clock, suited types loosen their ties and tuck into one of five daily specials (dishes like grilled tuna steak or roast partridge, £12.50) or superior tapas (manchego and quince £3, chorizo in red-wine sauce £3.80), available after 5pm. Some 30 wines (ten by the glass) are served, including a decent house Santa Isidro Pegões for £3.50/£13.50. Draught beers include König Ludwig, Leffe and Adnams, with Duvel and Belle-Vue Kriek by the bottle. An upstairs bar offers the ideal intimacy to ignite an office romance.

I booked the upstairs room during the day for an office celebration and not only was it laid out immaculately, the staff were extremely helpful and catered to our every whim (jncluding the fact that we turned up almost an hour late). The whisky cheesecake is to die for, and the portions were well-sized, fresh and hot. Great value for entertaining and work "do's", and I imagine it's a romantic place to spend the evening too.
