  • As French as its name and namesake restaurant upstairs, the cosy C des A is more basement bar than café, but stylish for all that. A buzzy bunch of shoppers and showgoers clink glasses around an island bar, the minimal space made bigger by wall mirrors. The French-dominated wine list is 70 strong, with some 20 by the glass, from a humble Le Bosq (£3.95/£14) to a Puligny Montrachet Remoissenet 2005 (£63) and some seriously pricey Bordeaux. A glass of Chat Rouge Beaujolais comes in at £5.60. There are five cocktails (£7.50), bottled Kronenbourg, and a tidy menu of bar food that includes lunchtime omelettes (honey roast ham and cheese, £7.50), tapas and steak tartare (£8.50/£16).

Having booked here 2 years running we were looking forward to our Christmas get together this year.
However Cafe Des Amis fell over itself to disapoint.
The aperitifs took 20 min to arrive and were 1 short. We have to ask 3 times for someone to come and take our wine order.
All 4 steaks ordered were TERRIBLY overcooked, I asked for rare and got well done (and at £22 a pop just for the steak I would espect MUCH better)
They forgot to bring one of our deserts and 2 of the ones on time were overcooked - it was supposed to be chocolate soup a dn it was chocolate stodge!
We complained to the manager and he talked over us, argued some of the issues and then said by taking off the DISCRETIONARY service charge at our request he had done us a favour!
Save your money and go anywhere else and I would hate them to ruin your evening like they did ours!

I am a regular in the downstairs wine bar and their cheese and wine is fabulous! highly recommended.

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Long Acre, Cafe Des Amis looks like the sort of quaint, out-of-the-way brasserie that promises great food and a romantic dining experience. Don't be fooled. Horrible service, greasy fare and a shocking bill (with non-negotiable 'discretionary' service charge) await anyone that ventures in to this disappointing establishment. From the reviews we've read since it seems sadly like our experience was not a unique one.
Please don't risk it. For the money (around £50 per head) there are many better alternatives in the vicinity.
