London's best review, food and drink news
Back in the day - the late 1980s to be precise - Freud was the hottest ticket in town. Below the shop of the same name, this hidden cellar bar (reached via a metal staircase) retains the cool industrial feel, fans and slate seating that brought discerning drinkers flocking here 20 years ago. What's more, it still impresses today. The 30-odd cocktails (£6-£7), stencilled on a board above the busy bar counter, are strong and served with ceremony. Fifteen-odd types of bottled beer include St Helier, Kastel Cru and Estrella, and the wholesome food is wonderfully cheap for the area - £5 salads and £3.50 soups. Mick Stump's charcoal images of London and New York add a stylish decor touch.

London's best review, food and drink news
Comfortable in myself, accomplished, good company and quite bright. I have a good life, a good job and a nice sense of shock that it all turned out...
Finally a normal cozy bar in London
