Welcomingly unpretentious, Hope serves decent ales and good sausages to a lunch-break and post-work, mainly white-collar crowd. Ales include Wadworth 6X, Adnams, Fuller's London Pride, John Smith's and Timothy Taylor Landlord; the sausage selection changes daily, but you can probably count on it including something tasty with venison. Canteen-style mains (beef goulash, fish and chips, £5.95) are produced to an equally high standard. You'll find a Ropiteau sauvignon blanc and a Cape Province pinotage among the wines, and may prefer a table in the upstairs dining room to the scuffed-floorboard bar at street level.
