A textbook case of a bar attempting to be all things to all people, Escape plies yummy mummies with pizzas by day and local media types with beers early evening, before the decks come out, the windows steam up, and dance music throbs until 4am Thursday to Saturday (wretched soulful house on our last visit). Somehow, it manages to pull it off. Bashed leather sofas and a vintage iMac running fractal patterns lend the place an East Village vibe.

This WAS a really cool place. It was quirky, played a real mixture of music and pulled in a variety of people - everyone was welcome. Not anymore! Gone are it's bashed leather sofas and art covering the walls. It seems to have had a make over and a boring one at that. I went a couple of Saturdays ago and it was a completely different atmosphere to the Escape I had been to before. The music was some kind of house or garage or something, with hardly anyone on the dance floor, it had lost all it's friendly atmosphere and traded it with something that felt very hostile. What a shame. It should be packed considering it is one of the only places open until 4 but it's only ever been half full and why have a dance floor if the music is so terrible no one wants to dance to it! Makes no sense to me.
