Long a popular destination for the post-midnight Brixton drinker, the Prince is currently making a power play for dominance of the SW9 after-hours scene. A nightclub - Dex - recently opened upstairs and there are plans for a two-tier members' club replete with hot tub and outdoor smoking tent, as well as a hotel (although confusion abounded when we attempted to find out an exact opening date). The bar itself has a curious opera-house-meets-après-ski feel (pine slatting and heavy red velvet curtains), which along with a gastropub menu (slow-braised lamb shank, £8.95) and wi-fi provides a relaxed daytime atmosphere. Come nightfall, a hip hop-centric soundtrack pulls in a buzzy, young crowd.
