Depressed by the dominance of identikit chain pubs? Fed up with ubiquitous refurbishments? Want cod and chips not pan-fried sea bass with curly fries? Has it all gone too far? The Dog House is here to help. The faded paintwork, chipped woodwork, fireplace coated in candle wax, carpet-lined bar and badly hung pictures all help make this place a breath of fresh air. Board games in tatty boxes are piled up in one corner, and there's a good range of beer on tap, such as Bombardier and Black Sheep. It's cluttered, homely and, triumphantly, a bit of an odd shape.

I've been living in London for a year now having moved here for work and starting to get settled, but still plenty to see. Like most people though...

Today was the first time I've eaten in the Dog House in a long time. After a very bad experience with food there, I thought that sufficient time had passed to warrant giving it another shot.
My vegetarian sunday Roast (some frozen Birds Eye veggie burgers with veg) turned up with beef gravy. I asked for Veggie gravy instead, to be told they didn't do it. This made me think if they couldn't be bothered to make separate gravy, then what about the roast veg? I asked about this and sure enough, the veg were roast in animal fat. It's absolutely outrageous, and think about the number of vegetarians that will have eaten there unaware that the meal is not vegetarian at all.
It obviously goes without saying that I will not be eating there again.
The reason I love the Doghouse is not its range of (let's be honest) bog standard beers, or even its old-meets-new interior, it's because it feels like that hill at school where all the smokers and music fans would hang out. My marketing mates hate it - and that's why I love it.
Within a minute's walk you have both the Prince of Wales and the White Hart - both with a little more class than the old Dogger but you won't find two blokes huddled outside sharing a skimpy rollie in the sideways rain - that's Dogger town.
