London's best review, food and drink news
Better than an ATM, the HITW is an unreconstructed drinking hole in 'the wall' of the old South Eastern Railway's line into Charing Cross. In a calculated snub to the London & South Western Railway, the viaduct was constructed directly in front of the main entrance to Waterloo station in the 1860s. The windowless brick cavern of the main bar now makes a surprisingly cheery place to enjoy sport on the big screen and a variety of well-kept real ales at sensible prices: Young's Ordinary, Greene King IPA and Abbot, Adnams Best and Broadside as standard, along with a couple of guests such as Hog's Back TEA or Sharp's Doom Bar. Lagers on tap are Leffe, Staropramen and Hoegaarden.
