Big windows at the front catch the light beautifully, creating a pleasant feel even when Junction Road is at its greyest. St John's has long been a star in the gastropub firmament, with an adventurous modern menu that's mainly served in a grand hall of a dining room at the back, lined with eclectic art. There's relatively less space for drinkers, especially at weekends when dining tables take over more of the bar; but it's still a welcoming spot that encourages conversation. The wine list is superior, with well-chosen French, Italian and Spanish labels; beers on tap include Leffe, Hoegaarden, Timothy Taylor and Black Sheep.

A genuine honest man. 34 and was career focused for a long time, now wanting to settle down. Nice looking and a great body I like different sports...

We traipsed up the hill in the autumn gloom to find this spacious but cosy gastro. It was well worth the trek.
Rather than peering through the dimly lit bar area, we opted for the magnificently grand dining room (more of a hall). The wine selection was measured and very reasonable and the food menu was perfectly pitched too.
The pork belly was flavoursome with the perfect crackling in a tangy jus, the partridge was well cooked with only the cod steak and chips a little off key.
Service was excellent and even though we were the first to trouble the waiting staff, the place was nearly at capacity an hour later only adding to the calming ambience.
Top notch gastro in an area which needs often lacks this kind of quality.
I believe that they take fantastic care of their cellar and serve one of the best tasting pints in London, all the guest beers taste fresh with a proper soapy head as opposed the artificial froth you often get.
