Bold and rather beautiful, the Camden Arms successfully melds a number of striking styles - from the doll's house corner boasting retro furniture and a spiralling iron staircase to the two open fires, elaborate flower arrangements, artful light fixtures and backlit central bar straight out of a vintage mobster movie. It's also far enough off the beaten track to feel relaxed even at weekends, plus there's a charming beer garden for the summer months. Shame about the beer selection: Harveys Sussex Best is the only draught ale, Staropramen pick of the lagers and Baltika the most exciting bottle.
