A pub that counts Gordon Ramsay among its fans might think it can do what it bloody well likes - though that's not the view of the erstwhile regulars petitioning to turn this pre-eminent gastro-palace back into an ordinary pub. Not that much was ever ordinary about the place, its panelled walls among the most welcoming in London; but these days, it seems it has as many braying property developers knocking back oysters as veteran locals nursing pints of Broadside. There's a good list of European and New World wines on the blackboard, and the food can be disarmingly good. If only tempers weren't so severely tested on both sides of the bar.
