A likeable marriage of modern (the usual soft leather sofas) and unfussy, old-fashioned boozer styles, the Compasses is a laid-back spot that caters well to all and sundry. Football and rugby on the big screen in the pool room at the back are a big draw, or you can borrow a board game or read the paper in the front bar. There's good comfort food like bangers and mash, Saturday brunches and Sunday roasts, plus more gastro-ish daily specials. There's also a decent, frequently changing wine list, starting at £10.25 for an Italian cabernet, and a quality beer range: London Pride, Timothy Taylor and Deuchars as regulars, with interesting guests.

I'm a chatty, quick witted, financial PR girl who finds life too short to take yourself too seriously! I'm able to keep up with the banter and fit...

This is my local and I love it. It has everything you want from your local pub - good beer, wine, food and atmosphere. Nigel runs the best quiz night for miles around! What really makes it though is the staff who are all friendly and great at their jobs. This place makes my day and I rate it full marks!
