Dominated by its picturesque mahogany-and-glass bar that splits the compact interior into a series of cosy nooks, the Crown is better suited to one-on-one chats than big groups. It's located in a lovely part of Barnsbury so regulars lean to the well-to-do end of the N1 scale. The decor shows respect for tradition and style, with an elegant teal blue exterior and original etched glass and wood panelling throughout. On tap are Honeydew, Chiswick Bitter and London Pride, plus Scrumpy Jack, Staropramen and Hoegaarden; bottled brews include De Konick, Peroni Blue, Früli and Budvar; and the wine list will satisfy most.

I used to live next door to this pub and it is a total disappointment. They somehow justify charging £2 for pork scratchings, the beer is a mixed bag, and the food is essentially basic pub grub, given new fashionable titles to appeal to naive Islington fashionistas, and is at the end of it all pretty poor. The staff have a stinking attitude; I always got the impression that as a local my need to buy a pint was frowned upon as I was not in a crowd of 15 loud, opinionated Media-industry types. Avoid. If you want a proper pub with reasonable prices go around the corner to the Islington Tup.
The pub is beautiful inside & has a nice relaxed local pub vibe. However, if you want to feel welcome & receive service with a smile (or at all) - look elsewhere! Sadly, the staff here really let the place down as they are unfriendly, unhelpful & slow to take food orders. Instead, they scuttle round keeping their heads down to avoid eye contact & the waving hands of patrons trying to get their attention. When we mentioned to the manager that had so far taken us 20 minutes to get our diner order taken (on a Wednesday), he was not smiley & apologetic, but instead defensive & full of excuses. As locals we keep going back because it's close & the Drapers has sadly closed, but I wouldn't recommend it.
Im a regular to this great N1 Pub.The food is conistently good and the beer and wine choices are satisfactory. Helpful and friendly bar staff never disappoint. A great place to hide out from the winter blues outside.
